PALADIN PRESS RELEASE
October 2, 2009
Paladin Secretary, Amelinda Whitley has been invited by the Denver City Attorney's Office to speak at the Wellington Webb Building during DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Awareness month. This event will be from 12-1 pm in the Atrium.
"This is very exciting for me, as I will giving a speech in my office building and telling my story to many who know me but may not know what my family has endured. This is a wonderful opportunity to speak to my co-workers and ask for their support for those who also work for the CITY and may be undergoing a tramatic situation of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. I love speaking out about DV, I love making people aware that it can happen to anyone... including me, us. DV is everyone's responsibility. 1 in 3 women will be or has been abused - that is a huge number... we all know at least 3 women, you do the math! There is a horrible stigma behind DV and we need to change the stigma, and start focusing on the issue... why do abusers ABUSE? That is the focus."

Former Assistant District Attorney Kim Quinn and volunteer Amelinda Whitley
to provide sensativity training to Denver District Court Clerks for Victims and Families of Domestic Violence.
"I was honored when I was asked by Kim to share in this event. Kim and I became instant friends (the entire prosecution team and I have a bond that can never be severed) during the grueling murder trial of my sister. I was honored when she invited me to sit on the Board of Directors for Family Tree in 2008. But this, this allows me to get personal with people who have to face the familes and the abusers every day. It can't be easy to sit in a court room for 8-hours a day hearing the same story of violence day in and day out - at some point you would have to become calloused. But I want them to know that there are special cases, there are special circumstances. Not all families become victims of the circumstance - but make the circumstance become part of a survivorship, part of healing and that there are families who had no qualms about supporting what the DA's Office and the courtrooms staff and judges. We had one of the most amazing judges during our trial - and GOD blessed us with each of them (judge and staff). HE knew who would be our best fit for our tragedy at that moment in time. So to do this - is again my way of giving back."
"It is always about how my sister LIVED, not how she died."
